An Ann Arbor Legend, Reborn

An Ann Arbor Legend, Reborn

The Pretzel Bell first opened in 1934 and spent nearly 50 years as the campus watering hole of choice for the University of Michigan community. Today, at 226 South Main Street, that legend lives on — with the same spirit, and a lot of great food.

From 1934 to 1985, the Pretzel Bell held court on Liberty Street as one of Ann Arbor's most beloved gathering spots — what Metro Times called "one of the legendary Ann Arbor sports bars." For generations of Wolverines, it wasn't just a bar; it was a landmark.

When Pretzel Bell reopened at 226 South Main, it came back surrounded by photographs of Michigan football victories and academic achievements — a dining room steeped in history, built for a new generation.
